If you’ve taken one of my classes, you’ve probably heard me talk about the carbonized scrolls from the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum (the only fully intact library from the ancient world). They were buried when Mount Vesuvius covered Pompeii and Herculaneum in ash around 2000 years ago. Since they were rediscovered in 1700s, people have been trying to find a way to read them.
